10 Military books in Christian Fiction to celebrate #MemorialDay

Happy Memorial Day!

In honor of Memorial Day, below are my ten favorite books where the characters are either military, or former military.

There are hundreds of Christian Fiction books with more military-centric plots. Some wonderful authors to check out with military centric books are: Hallee Bridgeman, Sarah Sundin, Ronnie Kendig, Mel Odom, Tricia Goyer, J. M. Hotchstettler, Connie Ann Michael, and many more!

These listed below are all books I’ve read personally and they’re listed in no particular order. Enjoy!

The Third Reich Seeks to Extract the Information She Alone Knows

Known only by her code name, TEMPERANCE, Marie is trained to operate a wireless radio and returns to her beloved France. With a new identity, Marie clandestinely communicates vital intelligence directly back to Headquarters but unwillingly attracts the attention and apparent adoration of a handsome but ruthless Nazi officer, Oberleutnant LEOPOLD SCHÄFER.

This 8 book novella series is meant to be read in order. I highly recommend the whole series!

You can read more about the series in my book reviews here:

Some battles must be fought alone.

After a freak accident severs Lieutenant Michael “Finch” Carrington’s military dreams, as well as two limbs, he’s left with nothing but a fragile faith and a duty-bound promise to watch out for his friend’s baby sister. A promise she insists is as unnecessary as it is unappreciated. But when she turns the tables and begins to weld together the broken parts of his life, it may be his heart that is in need of protection.

This is a split time novel and part of a series, but I’ve been reading it out of order without a problem 🙂

The closer he gets to Dorothy, the more he fears his efforts to win the war will destroy everything she has ever loved.

In 1944, American naval officer Lt. Wyatt Paxton arrives in London to prepare for the Allied invasion of France. He works closely with Dorothy Fairfax, a “Wren” in the Women’s Royal Naval Service. Dorothy pieces together reconnaissance photographs with thousands of holiday snapshots of France–including those of her own family’s summer home–in order to create accurate maps of Normandy. Maps that Wyatt will turn into naval bombardment plans.

Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face.

Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.

When Lyndie James, Jake’s childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion’s reluctance to run.

Together they must foil a plot to save the nation

Abandoned to an abusive father at five, Nick Williams grew up dreaming of escape; of enlisting in the Army and leaving his wretched life behind; of proving himself worthy of the girl he loves. But the crucible of combat offers only the escape of death. A decade later, Aria uncovers a nuclear plot that threatens the heart of our very nation. Sinister forces surround and threaten her when, out of nowhere, the man who reportedly died so many years before returns as if from the grave — intent on protecting her.

I really enjoyed this entire series. Check out my book review here.

For Coral Leigh, the Civil War took everything and everyone she loved

For Coral Leigh, the Civil War took everything and everyone she loved: her fiancé, her brother, and her father. But when her mother dies of grief shortly after the war’s end, Coral’s plantation home, Elmwood, must be auctioned. Soon to be homeless, she fears becoming yet another casualty of the war.

Fortunately, help arrives in the handsome form of Clint Logan, a decorated general in the Union army, and part of the occupational forces stationed near her home. When the general kindly offers her employment, Coral decides her pride isn’t worth starvation.

Everything depends on her

After months of training, Betty, code-named MERCY, now works in Occupied France as a nurse, where she garners information from patients and passes it to the Allies. Secretly, she tends to injured Resistance operatives, treating gunshots and other wounds that would otherwise draw the attention of the Third Reich.

Now Temperance is sick and Mercy needs to get her well enough for the coming rescue operation to succeed.

The gripping conclusion to the Virtues and Valor series.

LEOPOLD SCHäFER, the only child of Major Charlene Radden and former spy, Karl Schäfer has trained his enter life for this moment in time. An American spy undercover in a Nazi uniform operating under the codename VALOR, he receives a promotion to Oberleutnant and a new duty assignment in charge of the prisoners in Occupied France’s Valeurville prison.

In the wake Temperance’s arrest, Leo must handle the situation with the utmost caution. On one hand, every instinct in his heroic mind screams to protect the beautiful wireless operator from the hands of the Nazis. On the other, he cannot risk compromising his cover.

This series is meant to be read in order. I highly recommend this series – you can buy the entire set together in one volume, or each individual novella. The whole series was such a fun read but as you may suspect, #1, #7 and #8 are my favorites 🙂

Is Violet willing to break out of her perfectly contented shell and experience life beyond her little corner of Texas?

US Army First Lieutenant CHASE ANDERSON feels like he needs a change. From his duty station in Hawaii, he receives a job offer in the civilian market at the same time he’s asked to coach a pee wee football camp hosted by his alma mater, Texas A&M. Chase decides to take leave and coach the summer camp, intending to also check out the job offer. He has no idea God has other plans for him.

When a time-worn postal package arrives at the inn addressed to Chase Anderson with a 1940 postmark, Violet and Chase discover that his great-grandfather had also visited the inn as a guest all those years before. The box brings them together in a miraculous way, and their feelings for each other begin to grow.

This book is only available digitally inside the Yesterday’s Mail multi-author collection. The collection is great, but this book is one of my favorites. Just absolutely beautiful, romantic and heartwarming. I highly recommend it. You can also purchase it individually in paperback.

Finding the answers they’re seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another.

Former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. But when he’s diagnosed with an inherited condition, he’s forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.

This entire series is beautiful. You can check out my book review here.
